Eligibility This regatta is open to all sailors of MC scows. This is an MCSA sanctioned event. Each skipper must be a current member of MCSA and meet trophy age requirements before the first scheduled race. Non-MCSA members will be scored DNC for all races.  A boat may sail with a different sail number from its hull number if it registers with that sail number, and must compete with that number for the entire event.

The organizing authority (OA) for this regatta is the MC Sailing Association (MCSA) in cooperation with the Lake Eustis Sailing Club ( LESC).

The races will be governed by the rules defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
  1. The racing area will be the waters of Lake Eustis.
  2. The sailing instructions will consist of the instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing Instructions, and supplementary sailing instructions that will be published here, and be posted on the official notice board located at the club.
  3. Racing rules 30.1, 35, 41, 62.1, 62.2, A2, A4.2 and A11 will be changed.  The changes will appear in full in the sailing instructions. The sailing instructions may also change other racing rules.
  4. Courses to be sailed are all windward leeward courses as shown in the Sailing Instructions.
  5. VHF Radio (72) will be used by the RC to communicate with competitors on the water. Additional instructions regarding radio communication will be included in the SI’s.
  6. Competitors give absolute right and permission for video footage or photographs of themselves or their boat generated during an MCSA event to be published in any media authorized by MCSA for press, editorial or advertising purposes.
  7. Safety Suggestion: MCSA encourages but does not require the use of masthead floats when conditions warrant their use.

Scoring &

The Low Point System of RRS Appendix A will apply.

When fewer than 7 races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When 7 or more races are completed, a boat’s score will be the total of her scores excluding her worst score. This changes RRS A2.1.

Three races need to be completed before a Midwinter Champion is recognized and perpetual trophies awarded.  One race constitutes a regatta for purposes of awarding keeper trophies. Awards will be based on her finishes in the overall fleet.

  • Top Ten (10) Overall - Any age, male, or female
  • Top Youth
  • Top Woman
  • Top Old Salt
  • Top three (3) Masters
  • Top three (3) Grand Masters
  • Top two (2) Mega Masters
  • Triple Crown 1st Place - Highest points
The following Perpetual Trophies may be awarded if three or more races are completed:
  • MCSA Bill Crum Midwinter Championship Trophy - Overall winner
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Master Trophy
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Grand Master Trophy
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Mega Master Trophy
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Old Salt Trophy

Melges Performance Sailboats will be running a two-day Zenda University session prior to the 2020 MCSA Midwinters Championship. Tuesday & Wednesday March 10 and 11. The Zenda University session is limited to 20 boats. Please contact Andy Burdick for specific details.

If three races have been completed no warning signal will be made after 12pm.  If three races have not been completed this time limit is extended to 1 pm. No warning signal shall be made after 1 pm.

Boat registration is $215 if you register before March 1 ($225 after that).

$  65 ea - Youth entry (under age 25 on March 12) Youth MCSA Membership is Free

Registration fee includes: Breakfasts, Lunches, and Regatta T-shirt for all skippers. Regatta Banquet included for skipper.
Register early to ensure correct size T-shirt.

Guest & crew lunches will be provided at an additional cost.

Reservations for Friday night's Additional Banquet Dinner for competitors quests ($30) must be made by end of regatta registration. BUT, early reservation is recommended and will be on a first come first served basis.

Banquet Dinner for the guest of a Triple Crown qualifier is included in registration fee.

Crew & Spectator Boats
Spectator/tender boats are welcome. Every effort will be made to provide ample boats for crew & spectators wishing to get out on the water.

Lodging RVs/Camping Camping is permitted to the North of the Clubhouse. City of Eustis zoning regulations limit LESC to eight spaces for RVs under 30' length. RV space must be declared/reserved in the comment section of your registration form - first come first served!
